Committee Descriptions

Please volunteer to join a committee!
  • Apparel & Merchandise – Bag and distribute band apparel during Band Camp. Hang locker signs. (August)
  • Band Camp – Donate food for or help with snacks during Band Camp (August)
  • Chaperones – Supervise students at off-campus performances – football games, competitions, and Jazz Band events. Collect cookie donations for off campus competitions. Must be VIRTUS trained and have completed a DCHS background check. (Year-round)
  • Christmas Concert – Decorate the auditorium. Prepare the program. (December)
  • Concert Uniforms – Help with uniform fittings. Help with hems and buttons. Help with minor uniform alterations (hemming and repairs) (October – May)
  • DCV Dinner – Donate desserts and/or serve food at the band dinner prior to the last marching competition (October)
  • Deep Maroon Serenade – Plan and staff the annual band fundraiser, Deep Maroon Serenade (February)
  • Food & Band Picnic – Organize, prepare and/or serve meals to the band before marching competitions (September-October). Set-up, serve or clean-up at the annual Band Picnic (August).
  • Marching Uniforms – Assist with uniform distribution (i.e. shako plumes) at performances (August – October). Assist with uniform fittings during Band Camp (August). Assist with uniform alterations (August).
  • Media – Photograph rehearsals and events or video tape performances. Assist with the Band’s website (WordPress), emails (MailChimp), and social media platforms. (Year-round)
  • Medical – Be available to provide first aid at band events. Medical background or first aid training, plus VIRTUS training and DCHS background check, is required. (Year-round)
  • Recruitment – Organize visits to middle schools to promote band/colorguard at Dowling. Represent the Band at your middle school band concerts and events. Assist with the summer Band Bash program for middle school students (July). Greet middle school students and parents at the All City Band events (October & January). Staff band’s informational table at Open House (November).
  • Roadies – Move pit equipment on and off the football field for performances and/or help unload the band trailer for off-campus performances. Build and maintain sets and props during for the marching show. (Year-round)
